Divine by: Ayoni
I am One of Those Witches
Gather around, gather around folks it’s time to dive into new topics each week to let in a little fun; it’s me The Unfinished Times. To my new regulars, it is amazing to have you back and to those of you who are new I’m glad that you’re here with us today. Whether you’re a fan of it or find it irksome, I want to put my take on it out on the internet so read carefully and don’t hesitate to put your thoughts too.
The Divine
Back in the day I was a hard-core believer of astrology. I believed in it so much that I was known as the “astrology advocate.” People would reach out to me and ask about someone’s sign and seek compatibility insights. I always gave my honest opinions, noting that this was based off my beliefs. Until I took a Philosophy of Science class, it shook me to my core- I mean I was literally questioning if gravity was even real and stuff like if mathematics can explain physical phenomena. Of course, the topic of pseudoscience and science came into the picture. Prior to that, I had never heard of pseudoscience and came to realization that many of the things I have believed in fell under this category! It’s not just astrology, subjects like Feng Shui, Body Language, Acupuncture, Chiropractic care also lack scientific evidence and methods to prove their validity. It blew my mind and made me start to question everything- much like a philosophy class should.
However, during this period of questioning, I could never dismiss how and why astrology seemed so accurate for most people. I mean we all know, a Scorpio who is moody, a Libra that can’t decide, a hot-headed Aries, a creative Aquarius, the list can go on. And if we really wanted to get into the specific, investigate your birth chart.[1] The level of detail that you can gather just by the planetary alignments in the sky is scarily accurate.
Complaints, comments, and concerns
I am constantly met with debates over nature versus nurture agreement. Environmental factors shape our behavior, speech, tone, and thinking, while on the other hand, genetics have been proven to influence personality types and traumatic responses. Yet, the day you came into this world has not been conclusively proven to affect your personality or even have any relevance to who you are? Seems suspicious if you ask me.
Or another argument that I hear quite often, is how overly generalized each sign is so, 9/10 times people will fit the description. If that’s true, then you can fit all 12 sign’s description. If you followed my earlier advice and looked up your birth chart, you can see where I am headed with this. It is entirely possible to have all twelve signs represent you due to the planetary alignment in the sky. Due to your birth chart, it captures the moment in space when you came into this world. Therefore, you can relate to each sign because it is not just the Sun that counts, it’s also the Moon, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Saturn plus more.
As an educated person, I know that planets don’t all rotate around the Sun at the same speed, they have their own mass and distance at which they go around the Sun. So, they end up in different constellation zones. I am no expert at the zones of each planet, but this could answer why you can respond or act differently than just your Sun sign. What really blows my mind is that this is an all-natural occurring event; discovered way before technology was ever invented! Back in the day they drew the constellations and named them based off stories and people. The history of astrology is very rich, and each part of the world has its own idea of what your birthday could mean.
Diving in Deeeep
Taking a step further, comparing family dynamics is also an area of interest. I find that compatibility (through siblings) and parent-child relationship can offer a different view of astrology. With a family there are many dynamics at work; there is the parents who have a romantic relationship, then the parent to child relationship each parent having its own with each child at play, and lastly the child-to-child dynamic. It can get more chaotic if there are more family members involved like cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents along those lines that shape the familial dynamics. For example, I shall use my family, my mother an Aquarius my father a Pisces, my older sister an Aries. My sister and I when paired the dynamic of Fire and Air creates an effect of boldness and independence. We go together like tajin and watermelon, it’s just bam! in your face and good every single time. On the other hand, my mom and I are like twins literally, I was born the day before her birthday- we get each other, on every level we connect. And my dad is like that really old wise man always putting his two cents in everything yet, always valuable. So, he is always giving advice when absolutely nobody asks, doesn’t mean he is wrong though. This all might be a sheer coincidence and drawing conclusions based on events that were already set in motion and conjecture. But leaving it all up to luck or timing it just doesn’t incapsulate the mystery behind what is at work.
To end my spiel, whether you believe in it or not I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter. I know it is a big craze in today’s society, so I know there is always something new to add to the table. I haven’t done research about it for a while, so I am a little rusty- please note that after this sentence I have said Lightening McQueen line from Cars. Song of the week goes to Ayoni, it fits this week’s theme to a T. If you loved or hated this week’s you can always come back next week to check out a new topic and a new song and new conversation. Thank you so much for sticking around, until next Wednesday.
[1] You can download a free app called “AstroCharts”. You just need the location, time, and date you were brought into the world. It has a couple of sentences for each planet that describes their purpose and what sign it falls in. You do have to pay for the full version to have a fully in-depth knowledge or you can look it up.
