Losing Motivation or Is Life All About Tolerance?
Song Of The Week
This week, we’re diving into the sugary-sweet pop gem, “Eye Candy,” from the electrifying LemonDrop. With a sound that’s part confetti explosion and part bubblegum-flavored nostalgia, this track is guaranteed to tickle your eardrums and make you crave an extra-large scoop of fun!
From the moment the glittery synths bounce into your face! The upbeat tempo makes you want to dance like nobody’s watching—though let’s be real, someone probably is, and they’re definitely cracking a smile.
LemonDrop, with their quirky flair, spins tales of infatuation and crushes that are as colorful as a box of crayons. Picture this: the sun is shining, you're wearing your favorite funky socks, and suddenly the world feels a tad bit brighter.
The chorus hits you like that unexpected plot twist in a rom-com, wrapping you in a sugary embrace that you won't want to escape. It’s catchy enough to make you sing along with gusto—even if you find yourself accidentally serenading the pet goldfish.
As the song saunters to a close, you’re left with an aftermath of glitter and hope—because who doesn’t want to live in a world where everyone and everything feels like a treat?
Go to the Gym!
A part of becoming an adult is understanding and gaining consciousness. Consciousness in the sense that your life, the one you are currently living, is your responsibility now, and how you live it is one hundred percent up to you. Before, it was your parents’ responsibility to take care of and write your story. But once you reach a certain age, it gets handed down to you to deal, fix, organize and handle it however you like.
It's not even the dealing or organizing that is the hard part of life; it is the fixing. Fixing bad habits, fixing what you thought was right but is actually wrong, fixing attitudes, fixing lifestyles. Depending on your starting point, this fixing can be life-long pivots or temporary adjustments. My dreams for the future versus where I am currently burst my bubble quickly and made me realize something about myself that I want to deny, deny, deny. But accountability is the universal death sentence. So, how did I get here?
One Day at a Time
One goal I am actively achieving is my fitness dreams. I started at ground zero and slowly building up my dream lifestyle. The four years I have dedicated my life to fixing my unhealthy habits into healthy habits has not been an easy one. Some days, you feel the opposite of your goals. Feeling like it is alright to miss a day because you feel sluggish, lazy, tired, unmotivated- hoping for a bit of grace. It’s normal to feel like this in life because it is actually those days that are the most important on this journey.
The thing about a lifestyle is that it is continuous, like a circle, never ending journey. The saying goes, “You are at constant war with yourself in order to change” is so annoyingly right. Battling what needs to be done versus what I feel like doing right now are two different emotions. As an adult, you are supposed to choose the actions of what needs to be done because of responsibilities, integrity and other important qualities. It’s the adult thing to do some people say. Which actually doesn’t motivate me at all because I don’t even want to be an adult. So, what does?
I Want to be Your Motivation
At the gym specifically, when I feel waves of “laziness” there are three things that help me get through the day. One is music- a good upbeat song that distracts me from my current feelings. If I have no music, stage two is my goals; I want to achieve them badly. Nike said it best: just do it. And when all else fails, stage three is a bit of controversy- it’s competition. No one wants to admit it, but people at the gym are secretly competing with each other- in a friendly matter, in an “I need you to think I’m strong”, in a very weird utopia kind of way.
Friendly competition is a way for gym-goers to battle their unmotivated days by claiming to be the best. Fighting to be the best by completing your hardest workout. This made-up concept is my last barrier until I find the motivation to complete my workout. And it works! Finding motivation for the gym this way allows for accountability to shape. HERE Having an ‘audience’ and being the main character gives that boost in morale. The spirit must continue onwards.
When you find the slightest simmer of motivation, you take it and run. Run with it to the hills and always look back. Look back because it reveals your starting point. Hold on to that memory. If you did that one time, you could do it this time. That process just keeps adding and adding on to each other. you will build tolerance and every time complexity to keep moving forward. One thing about me, I hate losing streaks. Right now, I am four years deep.
Candy Shop
All of this is what carries me in life. It is about continuously choosing to be better even when it’s the hardest thing ever. If I can do yesterday, I can do tomorrow. The consciousness of being an adult is the countless times you will push yourself. The way you can feel the reward is when you look back. But you can only look back after a long journey. So, in the meantime savor the song of the week, Eye Candy by Lemondrop the encapsulates the feeling of highs and lows. Catchy lyrics and upbeat rhythm make life just a bit easy to handle. And can we just appreciate the artwork this week? It was such an uphill battle to design but I finally got it just right.
