Song of the Week:

Persuasive By: Doechii and SZA

When Women, Simply Women

When I think about the herstory of women it is a tale as old as time. Some parts ugly, some parts victorious, all boiling down to the present day. To get here, the women before us fought tooth and nail to get us our basic rights. More women after them fought for our right to express ourselves freely without a man. And now here we are accomplishing extraordinary, monumental feats.

One of the many joys is the creation of a TV show. And I know some of you might disagree with me and say it rots my brain, but I don’t care. It is the first Black woman produced top ten network series! Yes, I am on another binge of Grey’s Anatomy. I can’t help it this show is about woman power and what it means to be a surgeon in a field full of handsome men. Truly chef’s kisses, a 10 out of 10, nothing you could compare this to delicacy.

I love when woman, simply woman. Everything can be answered with “I am just a girl”. All problems go away. This week, I want to release some gratitude back into the world. Maybe even start a revolution.

Who run the world?

Women. I don’t think Beyonce was kidding. We have this gift, a little pizzazz, a little oomph. I call it the gift of life, but not the “oh, we can create life in our bodies for ten months and push it out of our vaginas.” Instead, it is the “everything we touch turns to gold, we are the ultimate superstar” kind of gift. Women have this special touch on life, we get when we are born, it comes naturally. We make things happen. We are the start and the end.

It reminds me of when some new pink item or a new cool Korean skin care product starts to trend on social media it is women who flood the internet with comments, likes, shares. We make a massive uproar. We damn near sell out the items in minutes. It’s crazy! All because an idea made by one woman. Thousands, millions, if not billions of women agreed with.

And this is power. The power of such a unified, collective idea that moves money in ways businesses can’t handle. We make that happen. Which also reminds me of an interview with Drake about his simp music, saying that he doesn’t make music for guys. He makes music for women because they sell it out, they make things hit number one, they put the men on. We are influencers, we are the pants, we make this world go round! Just by simply being a woman.

It is so satisfying to have this power at our fingertips. Imagine if all the woman in America stopped buying stuff for a week. What would happen? It would be a radical day in America. Or even just stop sleeping with men for a whole year. What would become of the world? Seriously. What do we do with all this power?

The Motherland

A part of being a woman reveals another side that we all collectively experience. We all have different levels of how we go about it. Some have extreme levels, and some have moderate to none.  If you guessed, sex appeal, you guessed correctly. It is something I struggle with daily because of the influencers on social media and all the different filters of what kind of girl you are shuffle.

How you obtain your level is somewhat a mystery to me. Could it be my mother? Could it be my father? Could it be both, I don’t know. Speaking for myself, I was a huge girly girl but then along the way I became a classic tomboy. Now I am trying find my way back to my roots. But I have missed core years of learning to do my makeup, finding the best ways to remove hair, do my own hair, find my style etc.

Rediscovering your girlhood as an adult, is not so easy to dedicate time and money to. What no one says is that the higher you go, the more work it takes to reach that level. And when you do the work, you have to experiment with different products and follow instructions. Of course, there is YouTube and TikTok yet, humans are all made differently so what works for her won’t automatically work for me. It’s a lot of girls out there. Funny enough, I don’t even think we do it for men at this point. Which I guess… makes it a competition on who can be the prettiest girl right? I don’t need to win but I do want to be in the race at least.

However, the workload… man… if I could spend all day trying to do the work to reach the mega level, I don’t think I could. The work to get max level of sexiness is too much for me. Putting on mascara is too much for me, picking a cute outfit has become too much for me. I don’t know if I am just lazy or is there is a thing of being burnout in how you look. If it is then it’s me. I need a dedicated process almost like a ritual to bounce my energy into taking the time to do the work. Plus, makeup is expensive, like really, really expensive. I do not know how they came up with those prices, but I think it’s time to revolt against them.

In this economy, a girl has got to save every penny she can to make it. I have tried to get into makeup and clothes but wholly molly. I tried to buy one makeup brush for blush, just one, the cheapest I could find was 23 dollars! For one item, that I do not eat! Nor is it made of gold.  It is unacceptable. They want an arm and kidney! A girl cannot do it all with these prices. Hair, makeup, and clothes need to relax. As women we need to take a stand. Make it very clear. This ain’t it anymore.

With a Little Sprinkle of Persuasion

You might be wondering how in the hell, can we do that? Don’t worry, the song of the week, Persuasive by Doechii and SZA is the answer. We can be persuasive; we can implement change. This song just hits all the right levels of sexiness we need to conquer the world. Currently obsessed with Doechii and this collab was something that awakened the sexiness in me. As woman, I get what I want when I want it. So, ask yourself how does it feel to be you?
