About your Writer

Welcome, welcome, back to The Unfinished Times, where I, your writer, am here to continue on this journey of connection. As I reflect on growing up, everyone always used to say, ‘never trust the internet’ or ‘never make friends on the internet’. Little did they know it would become one of the greatest tools of communication of our generation. A tool used every day, everywhere, all around the world to communicate with our friends and people around the world. It has become the norm to make friends on the internet hell, even date people.  Although I have never been an open person, I am challenging myself to step outside my comfort zone in hopes of creating a community on the internet- ironically.

To set the stage, let’s explore our different backgrounds and personal identity so we can get comfortable with each other. I can go first, my big three might be your first question. Well, I am an Aquarius sun, Sagittarius moon and Pisces rising. A great combination, it has all my favorite signs and that might be biased of me to say yet, you can argue with your mom. If that wasn’t your first question then, it is true I’m from San Diego. One of the greatest cities in the world by the way; picture this: the sky is bright blue, sun shining all day every day, not a single cloud in the sky and when it is the rainy season you can experience some gloom. Get a quick fix of what it feels like to being in a music video looking sad out the window with a couple of rain drops falling but at most that will last for two days, and you get the sun again. Plus, a mix of different lifestyles: the beach, the mountains, the desert, and the city all close by. Now, I have lived almost all over the world and the only place that has it beat is a small, small island off the coast of Japan. Which ‘is where my mom met my dad, – and they had me’. And if that wasn’t your first question then, yes, that makes me Okinawan and African American. Usually when people discover this about me the next question they ask tends to be ‘what do you do in your free time?’……. I’m just messin’ around with y’all. I lived in Okinawa through middle school allowing me to brush up on my native language. My mother only speaks Japanese with a bit of broken English that she has learned over the years living in America. I grew up understanding and speaking Japanese but couldn’t read until I start to take classes. Judging by these two facts you could imagine my life to have been pretty hectic, from living in Japan as a schoolkid to having multi-race background. It only increases after that, and that’s the beauty of life, small mountains of chaos. Back to the other question, as an Aquarian by nature, I want to experience everything and anything all at the same time. I have been on the path of becoming trilingual, deepening myself into self-help books, really into my making my ass fat at the gym, on the hunt for a big girl job and explore this new city I decided to resident in when I was 18. And now this journey as well, your participation is essential as we build a community of like-minded or perhaps even contrary-minded fostering understanding and camaraderie.

Recently, I have stumbled across an interesting point of view as part of my research for The Unfinished Times. Which made me realize that all this new information to you, are just facts about me. It is just a mere peek into the kind of person I could be, you may already have preconceived notion abouts me. It is human nature to see facts and grasp other information about me, but keep in mind these should be just hypotheses. They do define me, but they don’t justify who I am nor the person I can become. I believe that takes time to see, develop an understanding and explore together to know the person you’ll be. And that is the key to this friendship, creating connections one question, one moment at a time.

I think that is enough about me, if this was all over the place for you welcome to, not only The Unfinished Times, but to my brain as well. A special thank you for staying tuned to this week’s introduction. You might think I am crazy… heh well, I can show you crazy, but that requires you to stick around. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. I have some music to keep you going. This week’s song choice is a new discovery, recently been loving a nostalgic vibe to music. As we reminisce, we confront the bittersweet progress that life demands. Next week you can meet me here to dive into one of my all-time favorite topics; this is where shit hits the fan.
