Song of the Week:
She Stole My Heart by: Ark Woods
Type A Personality
It all started in Mr. Niro’s 8th grade AVID class that my love for planning took a toll for the rest of my life. I remember being introduced to planners and how to use them and why they were important not only for school but for life as well. Of course, being the kid, I was didn’t seem to understand this concept until I discovered bullet journaling which if you think about it is glorified planning. It has all my favorite elements; pretty pens, cute doodles, the cutest stickers and best of all it made my penmanship fantastic. From that class on I have made a planner from scratch for school until my last year of college. I graduated and I thought it was the end of an era for me. key word: thought. I had a jam-packed week and a half, and I can honestly say I am surprised I made it through the year without one.
Head Start into 2025
Here’s why it amazes me how quickly my brain forgets important information, like deadlines or appointment times. It jumbles everything together, even if the details are mismatched, and somehow convinces me it’s correct. This has gotten to the point where I triple-check every meeting and every timestamp for every event. With so much on my plate, it’s no wonder my brain struggles to keep up. I’d lose hours scrolling through my phone instead of focusing on things that mattered.
As cliché as it sounds, planning truly does help with being more intentional with your time. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people who often has to learn the hard way—I need to go through the lesson to truly understand it. This year, in particular, has emphasized the importance of intentionality. I used to believe that living without structure made me more authentic, free to go with the flow and experience life as it came. But in reality, it often left me overwhelmed, running late, or missing out entirely. My days felt chaotic, and instead of freedom, I found frustration. Living without intentionality came at a cost: my time, my peace, and even my goals. Life can still be organic and authentic with a plan. I might be turning back into a Type A person, because I’ve discovered that I thrive with a sense of control. The chaos wasn’t liberating—it was draining. That’s when it hit me: I wasn’t living authentically; I was just living reactively.
Being Type A is nothing new to me—did I mention I used to design my own planners from scratch every year? Every detail was meticulously crafted to fit my exact preferences. But let’s be real for a second: being Type A can be exhausting. Are we ready to have that conversation yet? No? Alright, fair enough. Still, I have to admit, there are some undeniable perks. Productivity skyrockets, your days are filled with intentionality, and everything feels like it has a clear purpose—from the past to the present and into the future. The list of benefits goes on.
That said, my quest for the perfect planner wasn’t always smooth sailing. I tried nearly every free planner app on the Apple Store, but none of them quite hit the way I wanted. Nor did I have the energy to make my own from scratch like I used to so that I can customize it to my preferences. That’s when it dawned on me—there’s no one-size-fits-all solution it requires customization. Planning isn’t just about finding the right tool; it’s about discovering the method that works best for you. Everyone will have their own quirks and dislikes about how they want to schedule their livelihood.
Intentionality is all about how you define it—whether it’s making progress one goal at a time or meticulously planning down to the minute. What matters is that it aligns your actions with your values, creates space for the things that matter most, and brings joy to a well-lived life. The true beauty of intentionality lies in its ability to keep life feeling organic while ensuring you stay focused on what’s truly important.
Learn From Experience
I say this as if I have it all figured out, but the truth is quite the opposite—I’ve lacked direction in recent years. When I look back on my life, I sometimes struggle to see the thread that ties it all together from one moment to the next. It feels almost as if I’ve been jumping between different multiverses, each with no clear plan or motive. And honestly, I’m not sure who or what to blame—myself or the circumstances?
I’ve always been a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, that every experience has its purpose. But it leaves me wondering: what’s mine? I guess we will never know. I think back to living with intentions, mine just looks different and what it boils down to is that is it okay.
But maybe that’s the point, it’s not about having everything perfectly planned or always knowing the next step. It’s about recognizing where you’ve been, understanding where you are, and taking intentional steps toward where you want to go. Intentionality isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress.
I Want to Have Her Forever
So, as I look ahead, I’m choosing to embrace intentionality—not as a rigid set of rules but as a guide for living a life that feels aligned and meaningful. It’s a commitment to myself to find the balance between structure and spontaneity, between planning and letting life unfold. Because, at the end of the day, living with intention doesn’t just make life more organized, it makes it more alive. That brings me to the song of the week: She Stole My Heart by Ark Woods, a track that perfectly captures how intentionality has shifted my mindset. This song is that girl—it truly stole my heart. It reminds me to embrace what’s already happened and use it as a foundation to create future plans that seamlessly connect.
What I love most about this song is its creativity—the way it blends unique beats and instruments, paired with my favorite kind of rapper. Ark Woods has this underground charm, making funky, innovative music that feels authentic and fresh. And his choice of lyrics? Absolutely hilarious. It’s the kind of song that’s just plain fun to sing along to, and honestly, that’s exactly the vibe I need right now.
